Eco Schools
Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging 19.5 million children across 70 countries, making it the largest educational programme on the planet. The programme was developed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in 1994 and run in Wales by Keep Wales Tidy.
It is designed to empower and inspire young people to make positive environmental changes to their school and wider community, while building on their skills, including numeracy and literacy, and encompassing Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship.
Our Eco Journey
We are very proud to be longstanding members of Eco-Schools, and it is almost 20 years since we started our Eco journey.
We are now approaching our 6th Platinum Green Flag Renewal.
A staff Eco-Coordinator facilitates the Eco-Schools programme within the school. We address problems faced within schools, our homes, the locality and worldwide. Achieved by forming an Eco-Committee made up of pupils, who work alongside staff and governors to push forward actions and discuss progress.
What have we done?
The Eco-Schools programme is well embedded within our day-to-day life in school and over the years we have been involved in many schemes, initiatives and events.
- The Sustrans School Programme -Promoting sustainable travel
- Size of Wales Workshops
- Earth in Danger - A production by Year 2 pupils (all donations went to The Big Cat Sanctuary)
- PONT - Twinning our school with Busumbu School in Mbale, Uganda
- Keep Wales Tidy - Brackla: Love It, Don't Trash It!
These are just a few of the projects that we are (or have been), involved in.
Read our weekly newsletters to see how passionate we are about the importance of the current environmental problems and how we address them through all aspects of our teaching and learning on a daily basis.
