Attendance
We have recently revised our attendance policy with cluster schools and in line with BCBC’s ‘Attend to Achieve’ campaign.
Here are some of the key changes:
- Persistent absenteeism is now identified by the Welsh Government as below 90% (this has recently changed from 80%). 90% is equivalent to missing 0.5 days per week or 4 full weeks over the school year;
- A new leave of absence form has been created. All leave of absence requests must be made at least 2 weeks prior to the holiday;
- Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) may be issued by the Local Authority when permission for holidays/leave of absence has not been authorised by the school. FPNs can also be issued for 10 occasions of lateness during the term;
- Attend to achieve letters will be sent out termly identifying your child’s attendance and colour coding it accordingly: purple (100%); green (97%-99%); amber (96%-93%) and red (below 92%);
- BCBC run attendance drive days throughout the year, where the Education Welfare Officer visits the home if the school has not been notified of your child’s absence.
Therefore, it is essential that you notify the school of your child’s absence by 9.30am and continue to keep the school informed if the absence lasts more than one day.
